Good morning, traveling lovers of random art!
Today, we meander into Meadville, Pennsylvania. What would bring you that direction, I could not say, but my reason for going was the PENNDOT ROAD SIGN SCULPTURE GARDEN- Route 322 and Mercer Rd. AND 18492 Smock Hwy., Meadville, PA.
Penndot Road Sign Sculpture Garden is a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and art students at Allegheny College.
I headed for the Route 322 part first. Conveniently, there is a large hotel parking lot across Mercer Rd. from this section. The corner closest to the road was completely empty and I cannot imagine anyone is going to report you taking up a space there for several minutes, but if the pangs of conscience are jabbing at you, right next door is a DQ where you can grab a drink or ice cream and then dodge traffic on your way across the road to the large flowers. This piece is called “Signs & Flowers.”

All of these flowers are made out of old traffic signs: a gerber daisy with one way sign petals, roses made of twisted stop signs, leaves composed of highway exit signs, and so much more creativity that make this a worthy spot to get out and stretch your legs on your trip.
A little ways down the road across from the Get Go gas station (a 5-10 minute walk from the flowers, if you don’t mind walking in the grass next to a busy street) is the mural, entitled “Read Between the Signs.”

This mural is extensive and very impressive (these pictures do not do justice to the details in the piece nor do they show it in its entirety). The creativity and work that went into this art is worth every moment it takes to examine every foot of it. The best part of this art is that it is free for everyone to enjoy.
So go there. And enjoy.
Until next time, dahlings…
PCN Tours on television on 12-23-2021, had the Garden for tonight’s show. Wonderful description of all of the planning and maintenance of this artwork that has been a great project for everyone and we plan to visit the Penndot Garden soon.
