Swan Island Dahlias (or “Bridezilla vs. Dr. Les”)

Hello, dahlings.

Joyce Kilmer may never see a poem as lovely as a tree, but I think I shall never see a farm as lovely as the SWAN ISLAND DAHLIAS- 995 NW 22nd Ave, Canby, OR 97013.

The 35 acre farm is yours to stroll through for free August through September (and October, weather permitting). Swan Island is the number one dahlia provider in the United States, so you will have a large and beautiful variety for your perusal.

Here, you can walk amongst such dahlia varieties as Bridezilla, Fire Magic, I’m a Hottie, Mikayla Miranda, Myrtle’s Folly, Crazy Legs, Deputy Bob, and oh so many more. Just strolling through and reading flower names is a jolly good time on its own.

By the way, no, you are not allowed to pick flowers along the way. You can, however, buy some at their outdoor cart and shop for other fun bobbles in the gift shop.

There are also picnic tables on the property so you can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds.

This is what I would look like with a doctorate.

The farm also specializes in hybridization of dahlias, so there is an entire section of new, still unnamed varieties.

The Swan Island Dahlias is a relaxing side trip through some of the many wonders the world provides for us every day and we so often take for granted. Set aside an hour or two to appreciate the phenomenon that is nature.

Until next time, dahlings…
